Haka Action commences with a discussion of the powerful role that performing arts has in preserving and revitalizing culture, history, and identity in communities across the world. The group is introduced to traditional Māori Performing Arts (Kapa Haka) and the major role it plays in Māori community life in New Zealand (Aotearoa). They learn that each Haka, one element of Kapa Haka, has specific history, meaning, significance, and purpose including Celebration & Welcome, Tribute & Mourning and Ceremonial & Storytelling. The meaning and importance of the spiritual essence within all living things (Wairua) to haka as a spiritual expression is introduced. Participants learn to understand the significance of various postures, movement and facial expression that may be used in hakas to reflecting emotion, pride, and energy.

The group is then guided face to face (Kanohi ki te Kanohi) and using videos to learn a haka. As haka is about expression and storytelling, care is taken in learning the correct words, their pronunciation and meaning. While the group learn the specific actions and facial expressions for this haka, they are reminded of the importance of practicing with respect (mana). Finally the group unites in an uplifting dance and vocal performance of a Haka.
