Client Context

Wafi Energy (Shell Pakistan) was hosting its company-wide annual conference and sought an immersive team building experience for 340–360 delegates within a two-hour session.

The conference theme centred around Momentum — not simply moving fast, but moving forward together.

Program Objectives

The organisation wanted an experience that would actively involve the entire audience while reinforcing alignment and shared direction across teams.

Having previously partnered with Catalyst Pakistan on large-scale programs such as Go Team, The Big Picture, BlockBusters, and The Infinite Loop, the client had high expectations. Building on these successful collaborations, Wafi Energy once again turned to Catalyst Pakistan. They asked to deliver a high-impact experience that would fully engage delegates while supporting the conference objectives.

Program Design & Delivery

  • Activity: City Build
  • Participants: 340–360 delegates
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Format: Large-scale collaborative construction challenge

To bring the Momentum theme to life, Catalyst Pakistan transformed the City Build experience into a bespoke version — Wafi City — carefully adapted to reflect the scale, interdependence, and energy ecosystem of Wafi Energy. Every element from branding, narrative alignment and visual identity was recalibrated to fit the context.

The result was a large-scale, multi-district build engineered to mirror the complexity and collaboration dynamics of Wafi Energy’s real-world operations.

Each team owned a different section. However, the city could only operate successfully if:

  • Roads connected seamlessly
  • Layouts aligned
  • Decisions considered the wider system

They chose this activity because it physically demonstrates how momentum is created:

  • Alignment first
  • Coordinated execution second

Rather than discussing collaboration in theory, participants had to continuously adjust, coordinate, and keep the whole moving forward as a shared plan evolved in real time.

The structure ensured full participation while reinforcing cross-collaboration. No single team could succeed in isolation. Progress required communication, coordination, and shared accountability.

Outcomes & Feedback

By the end of the session, participants had created a fully integrated city measuring 24 ft wide by 15 ft long.

The level of creativity and attention to detail was remarkable. Teams considered how their section would function within the wider city, rather than working in isolation.

The final build felt cohesive, with each contribution visibly connected to a larger whole — powerfully reflecting the conference theme of Momentum.

Most importantly:

  • The entire audience was actively engaged
  • Cross-team alignment became visible and tangible
  • The concept of “moving forward together” was experienced, not just discussed

The client was extremely pleased with the outcome. The experience successfully brought the conference theme to life through shared participation.

Key Takeaway

City Build proved to be an ideal large-scale team building solution for conferences, demonstrating how alignment, communication, and coordinated action create true organisational momentum.

By transforming a strategic theme into a physical, collaborative experience, Catalyst Pakistan helped over 350 delegates experience what moving forward together really looks like.
