On 10 August 2026, a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia, causing widespread devastation across communities, damaging homes, hospitals, roads and other essential infrastructure. In response, Catalyst Global is committed to supporting emergency relief efforts through our giving partner, B1G1. Just four days after the earthquake, Catalyst Global has already contributed more than US$3,000 to the emergency response, and we will continue contributing to this important cause.
Families across affected areas are facing displacement, damaged homes, disrupted essential services and the loss of belongings and livelihoods. Emergency organisations are working to reach communities with immediate assistance while also preparing for the longer recovery ahead.
Through B1G1, our contributions support the emergency response being delivered by Direct Relief, an international humanitarian organisation specialising in providing medical resources to communities affected by emergencies and disasters.
Direct Relief is working with Colombian medical responders and local and regional organisations to identify urgent needs and provide appropriate assistance. Its response includes emergency funding, requested medicines and medical supplies, and support for frontline healthcare organisations.
The needs following a disaster of this scale extend well beyond the first few days. Direct Relief's initial response focuses on urgent medical needs and on supporting responders on the ground. As recovery progresses, assistance may expand to include additional medicines and medical equipment, support for damaged health facilities, rehabilitation and the continuation of essential healthcare for displaced and affected communities.

Emergency response efforts are focused on reaching those most affected with urgent assistance while supporting communities through the difficult days ahead.
More About This Project
Approved by the B1G1 Giving Board, Direct Relief has earned one of the highest reputations in the nonprofit sector for financial transparency, accountability, and rapid disaster response. The organisation is coordinating with local and regional partners to assess urgent medical needs, deliver essential medical supplies, and support frontline responders caring for those affected. Direct Relief has committed immediate funding to Colombian medical responders, is preparing requested medicines and supplies, and is working with local and regional organisations to support emergency care and longer-term recovery.
